Vinyl Fence FAQ.

How are vinyl fence posts installed?
Suburban Fence uses the pounded post method for installing the inner steel posts into the ground. Straightn’ Level post collars are used to both plumb the posts and facilitate attaching the PVC post to the steel post. What are vinyl fences made of?
Our products are formulated from the finest materials to deliver superior performance. The main ingredient to vinyl is polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Additives are mixed with the PVC to optimize the weather ability of our products, specifically; titanium dioxide, an ultraviolet inhibitor that acts like a sunscreen for the product, preventing yellowing and to preserve the original colour of the product; impact modifiers are added in enough quantity to allow our fences to flex under most impacts.

How are vinyl fences manufactured?
Our products are manufactured using a state-of-the-art process called co-extrusion, which bonds the ingredients into two layers. These layers are fused through extreme heat and pressure ensuring long-lasting performance. Co-extrusion enables the manufacturer to control the placement of the majority of the UV inhibitor TiO2 to the outside where it is exposed to the sun.

Is Vinyl Strong?
Our vinyl has 5 times the tensile strength and 4 times the flexibility of wood. The performance is improved by the use of reinforced ribbed rails and boards. Steel posts and metal inserts in the bottom rails further add to the strength of our system.

Will it turn yellow?
No. Yellowing in vinyl products is due to the sun’s ultraviolet rays. Our products contain an industry leading 10 parts per 100 of titanium dioxide (TiO2), which is an extremely effective UV inhibitor. This amount of TiO2 is more than enough to prevent breakdown from the sun’s harmful rays.

Will it crack?
All materials expand and contract with hot and cold temperatures. But impact modifiers act as an added safety measure, adding flexibility to our vinyl so that it’ll give instead of crack or splinter like wood. Our products are designed to operate under normal outdoor conditions.

Will it mildew?
Our vinyl has a smooth, non-porous surface, with makes it difficult for mildew to grow. But if conditions are humid enough, mildew can appear. If it does, it can be easily removed with water and/or mild bleach solution.

How do changes in temperature affect vinyl?
It is normal for materials to expand and contract during temperature changes. As with most plastics, vinyl will become less flexible in colder weather conditions. However, unless subjected to unusual impact, it will not break.
